Well, it is official. After 34 years of gracefulness including numerous falls and injuries, I have now succeeded in actually breaking a bone. And not just any bone...my kneecap to be exact. On Friday afternoon, I was cleaning out the playtherapy room at my school and hauling a sandtray down the hall, when my foot got caught and I fell on the floor with my left knee catching the brunt of the fall. As you can imagine, I made quite the raquet out in the Kindergarten hallway when both myself and the sandtray fell over. All of the sweet Kindergarten teachers rushed out to help get me onto the couch with my knee propped up and iced. Although they really thought I should have an x-ray, I assured them I would be okay. Afterall, who actually breaks their knee, right?? Well, as I tried to stand up and ended up collapsing, I thought I might better have an x-ray, just to be sure. I met my mom and Jonathan at urgent care, and my mom took the kiddos to her house. Three and a half hours later, I met with the doctor. Who, by the way, said "I am sure you are fine. It is next to impossible to break your knee." Well, turns out, if anyone can do it, a Hayworth can do it. It was confirmed to be fractured and I left in a knee brace. I spent the whole weekend laying in bed and on the couch. My sweet husband and kids have been fabulous! Jonathan has gotten me everything that I need. Anna Caitlin loves getting me ice packs, and Joshua loves to bring me my crutches (and my get well soon balloon!) And sweet Drew is happy just to lay next to me in bed and play his DS. Yesterday afternoon, I went to the orthopaedic surgeon who put my in a full leg cast for AT LEAST 6 weeks! Yuck! How am I supposed to do laundry, straighten up the house, and drive in a full leg cast?? I am also extremely clausorphobic, so they had to do a "split cast" with velcro that allows me to get it off if I have a panic attack. How nice is that?? I am sure that I will be updating my blog more often than usual as I spend my afternoons laying around since I cannot walk. A huge thank you to all of my sweet, sweet friends and family who have offered to bring meals and help with the kids. I am so blessed to have such wonderful people in my life! Until next time, Grace
